When Grand Senior Master Chang was around, he used to say that Australia
was the continent which he had the strongest longing for. And he also called it "the
last piece of pure land in the world". At this point in time, 3 years after the passing
of our Grand Senior Master Chang, Chung Su Temple in Brisbane held the first
ever English Tao Seminar in 15 years. This English Tao Seminar signifi ed multiple
meanings for us:
1.The fulfi lment of the Great Compassionate Vows of our Shir Chun (18th Patriach)
and Shir Mu (18th Matriach) to "spread the Tao to all corners of the world".
The Pacific ANZ (Australia & New Zealand) is a continent which our Grand
Senior Master Chang has strong affinity with and this land had just begun to
germinate from its Tao seeds. The wide spread and deep grounding of the Tao
messages to the lives and hearts of the local people is critically determined by
whether the Tao messengers have undertaken the right leadership direction and also
manifest their genuine compassion in action. Whatever our Grand Senior Master
Chang had experienced when he first spread Tao from China to Taiwan, can only
be deeply felt when we follow his footsteps ourselves. I am always deeply touched
when I watch the fi lm clips of our Grand Senior Master Chang trying to preach the
Tao in Taiwanese dialect with his strong yet cute Shanghai accent. He was originally
a very successful entrepreneur in Shanghai yet was able to let go of his own business
establishments, personal attachments and self ego, for Tao. He had to learn a new
dialect, adapt to new environments and culture, all because he wanted to be close to
the Taiwanese people. Such motivation is initiated by his great compassion for the
people. What we are facing in Australia today may be 10 times more diffi cult than
what our seniors had been through in terms of cultural translation between the east
and west. Yet, as long as we have a sincere heart of mindful observance, listening
and understanding, it will only be a matter of time that we can widely spread the
Tao to the Australian people with affi nity to the Great Tao. We can only fulfi l the
Great Vows of our Shir Chun and Shir Mu by our actions; and such actions will be
on the basis of regarding all people as equal regardless of their cultural and racial
backgrounds. Despite the cultural and language translation requirement of the Tao
messages, the love for all our brothers and sisters remain the same.

There were many great challenges during the preparation of this first time English
Tao Seminar. Whatever the obstacles were, they were merely lessons for myself and
other organisers to accept and learn from. I upheld the pure and sincere intention of
guiding our brothers and sisters to the Great Tao so that they can all realise their true
nature and inner wisdom. It was very touching to witness people from all different
cultural backgrounds to gather together and embracing the teachings of the Tao
collectively.
2.Collective efforts of Heaven and People in conducting Tao work and the blessing
from our Grand Senior Master Chang.
We often hear a common saying in our Tao cultivation community that the
Tao work is "conducted by people and silently assisted by Heaven". Through the
organisation of this Tao Seminar, I came to the deep realisation that provided we
have tried our best with our utmost pure and sincere intend for people and for Tao,
the collective righteous energy within the cosmos (including all the merciful celestial
beings, the buddhas & bodhisattvas) will take its natural course and synergy to
mystically work things out naturally. With such faith and determination I learnt that
there is no need to be overly attached to the outcomes of things, including matters
related to Tao cultivation and temple works.
With gratitude to Heaven, I had the opportunity to be close to our Grand Senior
Master Chang when I was conducting interpretation works for Tao Transmitting
Masters and Senior Masters. My background is in Nutrition & Dietetics and more
than a decade ago our Grand Senior Master Chang told me personally, "You need to
nurture your own essence of mind!" Honestly, although I understood these words
literally and remembered them over the years, it wasn¡¦t until the recent years that
his words started to produce chemical impacts in me. Particularly after he passed
away 3 years ago, it felt like his kind words have become a source of powerful and
encouraging energy for me during the critical moments of my cultivation journey.
I have been to many parts of Australia with him. During the day, we walked on
the golden sandy beaches of the magnificent Gold Coast coastline; at lunch, we
enjoyed the bento boxes next to the crystal clear lakes while watching the pelicans
performing their dances; and at dawn we admired the beautiful sunset from the
Glass House Mountain ranges. I am thus deeply aware of how much he fell in love
with this ancient land and the kind hearted people of this land. He sincerely wished
that all the Australian people with affinity to the Great Tao would receive the Tao
blessing and then cultivate their spiritual self accordingly. Thus the maturity of this
English Tao Seminar is also a result of his good will and blessing. I will continue to
contribute towards fulfilling his unaccomplished and selfless dreams to guide more
Australian people to Tao.
