It is a sad reality in the Philippines today that we lack school facilities

especially in the rural areas to accommodate the ever-increasing number

of students each year. Government funds do not reach the rural villages;

hence, the school facilities especially in the provincial areas are really

appalling. Realizing this problem, the I-Kuan Tao Sian Tian Temple

Cebu reached out to help a small agricultural village in Guinsay, Danao

which is about 1.5 hours north of Cebu City. Members of the temple

joined forces to help construct a new building with two classrooms

complete with enough tables and chairs for the kindergarten level. Prior

to the completion of the new structure, the kindergarten level in the said

community was divided into 4 classes. Two classes were held in one

classroom one after the other in the morning and again in the afternoon.

With the new classrooms, the teachers do not have to rush their lessons

and sacrifi ce the students’ opportunity to learn just to accommodate all

enrollees.

The Association also organized another project that renovated some

classrooms of the elementary classes in Binaliw, Cebu (another small

town which is 8 kilometers away from Guinsay town). New blackboards,

tables and chairs, toilet facilities were also donated to facilitate better

learning environment for students.

These projects were undertaken by the I-Kuan Tao with the philoso-

phy that education is very important for the children. Being able to help

these less fortunate kids will impart in their minds that they also can have

the ability to make their lives better. Each child whether from the city or

province should be given the opportunity to learn to have a brighter fu-

ture. Parents should be encouraged to raise their children and have them

educated

even in the outskirt villages since education is the key for every

child to be able to overcome future challenges.

在現今的菲律賓，有著一個現實的悲哀。學校設施缺乏，尤其是在農村地

區，每年不斷增加的學生人數。菲律賓政府的資金沒有達到農村，因此學校的設

施十分缺乏，特別是在省級地區更是令人心驚。認識到這個問題，宿霧先天聖道

院伸出手來幫助一個位於離北宿霧市約1.5小時路程的農業小村Guinsay。道院的

道親聯手，幫助建立兩間新教室，有足夠的桌椅達到可以上課的學習標準。在此

之前完成新的架構，上課分為四個類別。兩個班在一個教室，一個上午一個下

午，一個接一個舉行。隨著新的教室落成，教師不必急於他們的課程和犧牲學生

的學習機會，只是為了容納所有學生。

宿霧先天聖道院除新建兩間教室供Guinsay鄉村的學校使用外，另外還做了一

些事，如整修宿霧Binaliw（距Guinsay鎮8公里）小學班級中的教室，也捐贈新的

黑板，桌椅，廁所設備，以方便學生有更好的學習環境。

這些項目開展一貫道培育無國界的理念，教育對兒童是非常重要的。能夠幫

助這些不幸的孩子們，培育他們使他們有能力讓生活更美好。每個孩子無論從城

市或鄉村裡都應給予機會學習，有一個光明的未來。即使在郊區的村莊，應該鼓

勵父母提昇他們的孩子，讓他們接受教育，因為教育可使每個孩子都能夠克服未

來的挑戰。
